About the Handwriting Room

The Handwriting Room was created to provide pre-writing skills, basic introductory handwriting, handwriting refinement, and cursive handwriting to students pre-school age through middle school. We offer small-class settings (4-5 students) and one-on-one tutoring. We hope to offer consultation and large group instruction to local preschools in the future (see Services)

We offer our services at 2 primary locations where students will feel comfortable and motivated to learn. The Handwriting Room also can arrange to provide services for homeschool students during the week at alternative locations if desired.

Handwriting Instruction is provide by a licensed Occupational Therapist using the Handwriting Without Tears curriculum, a developmentally appropriate method of instruction using multi-sensory techniques and carefully monitored practice. This approach reduces letter reversals and utilizes simple and straight forward workbooks and materials.

By providing small-group and one-on-one tutoring, we can catch mistakes before they become habits - something difficult in most typical classroom settings. Teaching good pre-writing skills also lays a strong foundation for "errorless learning," thus reducing the need for later remediation.
